Beauty in Ruins – Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre

As Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre explain it …

Ruins are the visible symbols and landmarks of our societies
and their changes, small pieces of history in suspension.

The state of ruin is essentially a temporary situation that happens at
some point, the volatile result of change of era and the fall of empires.
This fragility, the time elapsed but even so running fast, lead us to watch them one very last time :
being dismayed, or admire, making us wondering about the permanence of things.

Photography appeared to us as a modest way
to keep a little bit of this ephemeral state.

Urban archeology & modern ruins photography.

Too Cool For School

The PS22 Chorus, a bunch of elementary school kids with a way too hip Music Teacher now viewed 8 million times on YouTube have become ubiquitous!!! – I’ve got to say I like their take on the Passion Pit track Sleepyhead – some of their stuff is a bit too saccharine and Tori Amos-ish for my liking but they do OK with Pulp’s Common People (Music Teacher Gregg Breinberg changed the lyrics to be more child-friendly – can’t find it on YouTube -suspicious), The Cure’s Pictures of You  and The Doors classic People Are Strange.

You can check out their blog here

You can listen to a Claude Mono splice-up including a couple of other Sleepyhead DIY Internet mixes here

Nick Drake vs. Marvin Gaye – could it work? – is it sacrilege?

nick drake

Its the annual Claude Mono Nick Drake Festival – a week where Claude does nothing (well musically speaking) except listen to Nick Drake’s complete body of work over and over again. You can do this in a week and still have taken a very deep dive into Tanworth-in-Arden and a journey into the very soul of what music and musicianship is all about. As a part of this year’s celebrations I was over at Nick Drake.com and was alerted to a fine piece of work which I believe is credited to (although possibly not authorised by the estate) to an orange coloured robot called nemzob and can be found here  But you can check it out right here by clicking the little button.

P.S. It works for me.
